MANILA, Philippines?The city mayors of the cities of Valenzuela and Malabon got fresh terms after landslide wins in their respective cities.
Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian won another term in Valenzuela City acquiring 162,999 votes following the city canvassing in the wee hours of May 11, 2010. The city board of canvassers proclaimed its winner around 3 a.m.
Contenders for the post Manuel Carreon and Pablo Hernandez only registered 13,920 and 8,002 votes each.
Shalani Soledad - girlfriend of leading presidential contender Senator Benigno Aquino III - also garnered the most number of votes in the councilor race in the second district of Valenzuela city.
Soledad got 79,558 votes out of a total of over 108,000 votes in the district.
Gatchalian?s brother Rexlon also won the first-district congressional seat in the city, besting challenger Ma. Elisa Mendoza by taking 74,977 of the votes out of a total of 89,000 ballots counted.
The top two posts in Malabon city, meanwhile, have gone to two Oretas. Canuto Oreta - who ran unopposed - was reelected in the city. He was proclaimed by the city board of canvassers at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
His nephew, Antolin Oreta III, son of Tessie Aquino-Oreta, was also elected vice-mayor.
Malabon city?s first congressional seat at the House of Representatives was won by Josephine Lacson-Noel. Malabon used to share a seat in congress with the city of Navotas. This is the first year that it will get a lone representation at the House.
Mayor Enrico ?Recom? Echiverri has retaken the mayoral seat in Caloocan city beating close contender Luis ?Baby? Asistio by more than a hundred votes.
Local Liberal party bets Echiverri and Edgar Erice were proclaimed mayor and vice mayor of the city by its board of canvassers Tuesday evening.
Caloocan?s board of canvassers only proclaimed the winners for the 1st and 2nd district congressional seats plus the city mayor and vice-mayor. The city was only able to canvass 95% of the votes in the 2nd district and 97 percent of the votes in the first district as defective memory cards from precincts failed to deliver some votes in the canvassing.
