MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE 2) A fire which broke out in a squatters? area in Tondo, Manila and destroyed three classrooms in an adjacent school was put out by responding firemen before noon Thursday, authorities said.
Manila Fire District officials said the blaze, which started at around 10:09 a.m. in the shanty area behind the Dr. Juan Nolasco High School along Tioco St., was put out at 11:15 a.m.
Students of the school were asked to evacuate as soon as the fire broke out. No casualty was reported.
Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed three shanties and three classrooms.
Reports from the MFD revealed that the fire reached the 4th alarm at around 10:31 a.m. because the shanties were made of light materials and were huddled closely to each other.
