MANILA, Philippines?Do you have the looks, galing (competence) and talino (intelligence) to be a presidential candidate like Gibo?
Then you should join the ?Hunt for Mr. GT (Galing at Talino),? the Gilbert Teodoro look-alike contest.
The search, launched Tuesday at a Quezon City restaurant by the Palit-Galing Movement, is open to men aged 18 to 35 years old.
?We are looking for Mr. GT in every community. He must be good-looking, competent and intelligent, just like our candidate Gibo,? Suzette Salazar, convener of the pro-Teodoro movement, said in a mixture of English and Filipino.
Teodoro, who placed fourth in various surveys conducted in the run-up to the May 10 elections, had said that he would train his sights on the grass roots, hoping to get their votes.
Salazar, who claims their movement has a membership of 10,000 people, said: ?This is one way for the community to get to know and understand Gibo?s platform in an entertaining way.?
Auditions will be held this month in six barangays, namely, Tala in Caloocan, Holy Spirit in Quezon City, Baseco in Manila, Welfareville in Mandaluyong, and two other barangays in the cities of Antipolo and Pasig.
Contestants will be asked questions on the same issues faced by presidential candidates: poverty, health care, housing and education. Gibo wannabes must be able to answer, not as themselves, but from Teodoro?s point of view.
Teodoro?s platforms are available in booklet form and will be distributed free in barangays.
From the auditions, 10 finalists will compete in the grand finals which will be held in April at Plaza Miranda, according to Salazar.
Prizes have not been determined. Neither is it known if Teodoro himself will be one of the judges.
