MANILA, Philippines?Senator and presidential aspirant Richard Gordon is backing the use of condoms to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, but thinks government has gone overboard by distributing the condoms to target users.
In an interview by radio station dzBB, Gordon said the rising incidence of human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) infections in the country has been "both a health and moral problem."
"But the best way to deal with the problem is education," Gordon said, adding parents should take responsibility for the sex education of their children.
"Parents should lead the way in making children aware of the problem and not leave the responsibility to teachers," Gordon explained.
When asked about the Department of Health?s distribution of condoms, Gordon said, "OA (overacting) naman yun (That?s overacting)."
HIV leads to the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition by which the immune or defense systems of the body break down.
