MANILA, Philippines -- The Bureau of Fire Protection on Friday issued reminders to the public ahead of the Fire Prevention month in March.
BFP director Chief Superintendent Rolando Bandilla said that residential homes should have warning devices or fire alarms. High-rise buildings, meanwhile, should have automatic fire suppression mechanism.
Buildings should also have exit signs and exit plans, Bandilla said.
He also advised that people should regularly check their liquefied petroleum gas tank hoses and replace worn out hoses, which could start fires.
"The LPG tanks they use should not be substandard. They should also check their electrical installations and loading requirements," Bandilla said.
Fire incidents should be immediately reported to Patrol 117 or to the nearest fire station.
Aside from these reminders, the BFP said that they would also conduct inspections on commercial establishments.
?This is a routine inspection that the fire bureau is conducting to make sure that these establishments, which are frequently visited by public, are complying with fire safety measures as provided for under fire code R.A 9514 which was signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Dec. 18, 2008 which replaced the 1978 fire code,? Bandilla said.
