MANILA, Philippines?A mendicant was found dead outside a shipping line terminal in Tondo, Manila, barely an hour after a resident offered the man, who was crawling on all fours, food and water, police said Thursday.
Homicide investigators said the man, about 40 to 45 years old and 5-foot-2 in height, sported a military-type haircut and was clad in a yellow camiso de chino shirt and blue short pants.
SPO2 Jonathan Bautista of the Manila Police District homicide section said that the man?s body was found just an hour after a resident of Barangay 20 Zone 2 in Parola Compound, Tondo, offered him food and a glass of water.
Bautista said that the body was discovered by Parola Compound resident Hebracio Peñaranda at around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, outside Gate 1 of the Ocean Link Terminal.
He said that at around 5:00 p.m., Peñaranda?s daughter, offered the mendicant some food but he refused it. The unidentified man, instead, asked for water.
Peñaranda said that the man could not walk and used his hands to crawl. He was also gasping for breath.
Bautista said that the witness immediately informed Barangay 20 Zone 2 officials of the man and sought police assistance.
The body was taken to the Cruz funeral parlor for autopsy.
