MANILA, Philippines -- A final resting place for the country’s fallen policemen – modeled after the popular memorial parks in the world - will soon be developed in Baras, Rizal, according to the Rizal provincial government.
The provincial government of Rizal has donated an eight-hectare property in Barangay (village) Pinugay in Baras to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the development of a landscaped memorial park for its uniformed personnel.
The site, which will be called “Himlayan ng mga Bayaning Pulis (Cemetery for Police Heroes),” would be patterned after famous memorial parks in the world like the U.S.’ Arlington National Cemetery, London’s Highgate Cemetery and Paris’ Pere Lachaise, they said in a statement.
Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares III signed the memorandum of agreement earlier this month to donate the lot for the purpose of building a police cemetery.
“It is a worthy undertaking to partner with our national police force in promoting and enhancing the welfare of [our policemen],” said Ynares in a statement.
He said the PNP would be allocating funds to develop the property not only as a police cemetery but also as a tourist landmark in the province.
In addition, the PNP is also expected to develop road networks leading to the project site within two years. As a donor agency, the province of Rizal will assist the PNP in the implementation and the management of the project.
