MANILA, Philippines? Two suspected carjackers were shot dead in an alleged car chase with Quezon City District policemen, an hour after the suspects reportedly stole a doctor's car at gunpoint early Friday morning.

DPIOU head Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr. said members of the QCPD's District Police Intelligence Operations Unit engaged the armed men in a gun battle during the chase along Mindanao Ave. Extension.

Pedrozo said the two still unidentified suspects died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

?We were also able to recover the silver Honda Civic with plate number VCC 728 which the suspects stole earlier from a doctor at gunpoint,? the police official said.

One of the suspects was described as between 30 to 35 years old, 5?5? in height, slim build, and had fair complexion while the other was between 35 to 40 years old, slim build and had long hair.

Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano Jr. of the QCPD?s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said both men wore t-shirts, jeans and rubber shoes during the encounter which happened at around 1:30 a.m.

Aside from the stolen car, police also recovered a Magnum 357 revolver and a .38 cal. revolver from the slain suspects.

Police were tipped off on the stolen vehicle after the car?s owner, Angelito Alava of Veterans? Hospital, immediately reported the theft to police.

Initial investigation showed that Alava, 57 and a resident of Mendoza Ville in Project 8, was about to board his car which was parked in front of the Mighty Supermart along Shorthorn St. in Project 8.

Alava told police that he was alone and about to get into the car at around 12:40 a.m. when the suspects suddenly appeared and demanded his vehicle at gunpoint.

The doctor was first made to board the car with one of the suspects at the steering wheel. Alava was later dropped off at Road 20 in Project 8. He immediately reported the incident to police, which then sent an alarm.

Luckily, a roving DPIOU-Ancar mobile patrol car spotted Alava?s car at around 1:15 a.m. at the Manggahan area along Commonwealth Ave.

?Police tried to flag down the vehicle, which we believed was on its way to Bulacan, but the suspects did not yield and instead sped away,? Pedrozo said.

The suspects shot it out with the pursuing policemen but slammed into a stone wall in front of the Neopolitan Subdivision along Mindanao Ave. Extension.

Pedrozo said the two men jumped out of the car and fired shots at the policemen, who then returned fire and shot dead the two suspects.
