MANILA, Philippines—The Food and Drug Administration will check if some of the more than two million fake and unhygienic condoms recently discovered in a China factory have already found their way in the local market.
On Monday, a condom factory in Hunan province in China was shut down by authorities for producing crudely packaged condoms that did not undergo proper sterilization.
Chinese authorities said about 2.16 million unsafe contraceptives were produced in the factory and believed to have been sold throughout China under a variety of names including known brands such as Jissbon and Durex.
“We will be checking if these products are here in the country,” FDA Director Nazarita Tacandong said in a phone interview on Tuesday.
