MANILA, Philippines?A former driver of Quezon City councilor Jorge Banal Jr. has been charged before the court for allegedly attempting to withdraw money using Banal?s credit card in 2008.
In a criminal information filed before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Tuesday, Michael Salinas of Barangay Pasong Tamo was charged with violating Republic Act 8484 or the Access Devices Regulation Act.
The indictment was signed by assistant city prosecutor Raniel Cruz who recommended a P20,000 bail for the temporary liberty of Banal?s former driver.
Banal, a councilor of Quezon City?s third district, filed the complaint in 2008 after Salinas allegedly tried to withdraw money from his bank account using Banal?s Union Bank credit card.
The Quezon City prosecutors office recommended the filing of charges in a resolution dated October 6 after Salinas failed to submit his counter-affidavit to the allegations against him.
According to records, Banal alleged that in August 2008, his former driver tried many times to make a cash advance using his Union Bank credit card at different banks in Quezon City. But Salinas failed to withdraw cash from any of the banks.
In his complaint affidavit, Banal alleged that he learned that Salinas was responsible for the attempts after being shown a video footage of Salinas trying to withdraw money from his bank account.
The city councilor added that on previous occasions before his complaint, Banal also lost P5,000 and P7,000 in cash and that Salinas allegedly admitted to stealing the money from him.
