MANILA, Philippines ? The Philippine National Police (PNP) sees no threat in the upcoming visit of US State Secretary Hillary Clinton on Thursday, despite the recent twin bombings that occurred in the country?s capital.
?There is no need to worry about the two explosions,? PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said on Tuesday. ?We can rule out terrorism.?
He added that the explosions ? outside the office of food and beverage conglomerate San Miguel Corp. in Mandaluyong City and Puregold Supermarket in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City ? were the work of someone meant to cause trouble and not to harm anyone.
Nevertheless, Espina said that police will be setting up the necessary security measures for Clinton?s security.
?We will be taking the cue from the Presidential Security Group in terms of securing Clinton when she arrives on Thursday,? he added.
Members of the National Capital Region Police office, the Police Security and Protection Group, and the Highway Patrol Group will be providing road and route security, area, and personal security to Clinton, Espina said.
?We are also ready for any protest action and we will be exercising maximum tolerance,? he added.
Clinton will be making a lightning visit to the country on Thursday for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders? Summit.
