Col. Romeo Brawner, AFP spokesperson, said 2,000 uniformed men from the Army, Navy, Air Force, along with ROTC cadets from Rizal Technological University and Arellano University, were deployed in Marikina.

?We are going to clean as much as we can para makatulong sa ating mga kababayan na nasalanta ng bagyo (We are going to clean as much as we can to help our countrymen affected by Ondoy),? said Brawner.

The whole day clean-up in Marikina included the villages of Nangka, Fortune and Sto. Nino as well as Marikina?s City Hall, public market and Provident Subdivision.

In Cainta, Rizal, some 450 personnel brought spades and broomsticks to clean up the mess in Greenland Village, Village East, Country Homes, Vista Verde, Floodway, and Imelda Avenue.

Meanwhile, 500 Air Force soldiers and 600 Navy soldiers were assigned in Pasig and Manila, respectively.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) would dispose all the garbage collected from the clean-up, Brawner said.
