MANILA, Philippines - Members of the House of Representatives are being asked to donate P1 million each from their Priority Development Assistance Fund, or popularly referred to as pork barrel, to victims of tropical storm Ondoy.
Senators on Monday approved a resolution for each of them to set aside P1 million from their pork barrel for those affected in Metro Manila and other provinces
This time, Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. filed House Resolution 1433 seeking to provide assistance from the Lower House.
Speaker Prospero Nograles said he supports the resolution.
Nograles also said that lawmakers and employees have launched a fund drive to generate at least P20,000 from each congressman.
Responding to calls to open the Batasan complex to flood victims who have lost their homes, Nograles said this may affect the daily operations of Congress.
?It would be difficult to make the House as evacuation area as legislative activities have to go on, especially this budget season,? he said, while noting space constraints and security concerns.
