MANILA, Philippines -- Tropical depression "Ondoy" has intensified into a storm, prompting the weather bureau to raise storm warnings over several provinces in Luzon.

"Ondoy" was spotted 130 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes packing maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 80 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 p.m. update Friday.

The weather system was moving west-northwest at 11 kph.

Pagasa raised public storm signal warning No. 2 in Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Pollilo Island and signal No. 1 in Albay, Burias Island, Quezon, Marinduque, Rizal, Bulacan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Isabela.

"Ondoy" is expected to be 130 km west-northwest of Dagupan City Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.

It is forecast to be 560 km west-northwest of Baguio City by Monday afternoon.

Pagasa said that "Ondoy" was expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over Central and Southern Luzon as well as in the Visayas.

"Residents living in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes in areas affected by the southwest monsoon and those under signals No. 1 and No. 2 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides," Pagasa said.

It added that people living along the coast in provinces under signal No. 2 "are advised to be on alert against big waves generated by the storm."

Pagasa also advised fishing boats and other small sea craft against venturing out to the sea as conditions could be "rough to very rough" in the western and southern seaboard of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Larger sea vessels were warmed about big waves that could reach 3.7 meters to 5 meters high.

Metro Manila, Tagaytay City, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo City and Bacolod City will experience rains over the weekend.

Rains and gusty winds are expected to hit Tuguegarao, Laoag, Baguio, Olongapo, Angeles City, and Legaspi City today while Cebu and Tacloban will have cloudy weather and rain.

Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Zamboanga City will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
