MANILA, Philippines -- The judge hearing the trial of the men accused of murdering Ruby Rose Barrameda Jimenez urged the victim?s sister, on Thursday, to refrain from giving colorful comments on the case in her interviews with the media.
Judge Hector Almeyda of the Malabon-Navotas Regional Trial Court Branch 170, however, said he could not issue a direct order to Ruby Rose?s sister, actress Rochelle Barrameda, to stop talking about the case because such an act could abridge her constitutional right to free speech.
The camp of lawyer Manuel Jimenez Jr., one of the accused in Ruby Rose?s murder, berated Rochelle for granting interviews to TV, radio and print media and making comments about the trial.
Mario Aguinaldo, lawyer of Jimenez Jr., asked the court to ask all parties to the case to refrain from media interviews, in a court hearing on Thursday.
He particularly pointed to Barrameda?s comments, which appeared in the Inquirer last week, which also appeared on television, saying that Jimenez Jr.?s illness during his arraignment was ?all drama.?
In response, Almeyda asked Rochelle to be circumspect in giving comments but said he would not issue a gag order.
