MANILA, Philippines? The man tasked to make peace with the country's insurgents is now making peace with Manila residents in preparation for his mayoralty bid in the May 2010 election.
Former Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon, now presidential adviser on peace process, said he is consulting with groups to get their pulse on the type of leader they want for the city.
"Maganda naman ang pagtanggap nila (The reception has been good)," Razon said in a radio interview Wednesday.
"Naghahanap sila ng alternative leadership at pagbabago sa lunsod (They are looking for alternative leadership and change in the city)," he added.
Razon said he will offer a new kind of politics, not the traditional politics when he runs.
Reports have said that Razon is eyeing Vice Mayor Isko Moreno as running mate.
Razon served as chief of the Western Police District during the term of former Manila mayors Alfredo Lim and Jose Atienza.
Razon was appointed as peace adviser last year. He has since been at the helm of initiating talks with armed groups in the country such as the New People's Army and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
