MANILA, Philippines -- Jeepney drivers are threatening to hold a transport strike in Metro Manila and other parts of the country over recent oil price hikes and high fines being imposed by the Land Transportation Office.
George San Mateo of the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide said they would hold a transport strike on July 13, Monday, which he said would paralyze 80 percent of the transport sector in Metro Manila.
In a press conference on Friday, San Mateo also called on private motorists to join in the protest by boycotting the products of the Big 3 oil companies – Shell, Caltex and Petron – on Monday.
If successful, the strike will affect parts of Metro Manila, certain portions of Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Panay, Guimaras, Davao City, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos, Mateo said.
