MANILA, Philippines—Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim announced on Monday the arrest of six alleged members of a street gang believed to be behind the series of jeepney robberies in the Tondo district.
In a news briefing at the city hall, Lim identified the arrested gang leader as Ronnel Abuloc, 29, said to be the founder of True Brown Style, a dreaded neighborhood gang in Tondo.
Also arrested were Abuloc's younger brother Randel, 23; Christopher Enriquez, 19; Marissa Borja, 42; Darwin Dionisio, 20; and Julius Joe Castro, 19.
Chief Inspector Fernando Opelanio, the Manila Police District’s intelligence operation unit director, said they swooped down on the residence of Abuloc on 1102 Torres Bugalion Street, Tondo around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Seized from suspect's house were 15 plastic sachets of marijuana, two unlicensed pistols, several pieces of live ammunition, bladed weapons and paraphernalia used in sniffing shabu.
According to Opelanio, members of the group were involved in several jeepney holdups in Tondo and nearby commercial districts.
"The suspects were actually holding a pot session when we raided the house. They were also supposed to hunt and kill members of their rival gang on that night," Opelanio told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
