MANILA, Philippines -- Fire broke out in a 10-story office building in Makati City Saturday morning, burning three floors in over three hours, fire officials said.
No one was reported injured in the blaze that hit the Feliza Building on Rodriquez Street in Legazpi Village, said Chief Insp. Samuel Tadeo, head of Makati’s Bureau of Fire.
Tadeo said the blaze started in the air compressor room on the ninth floor at 9:06 a.m
It spread to the eighth and tenth floors after an hour. Fire out was declared at 12:28 p.m.
Tadeo said the thick billowing smoke made it hard to control the blaze.
Coco Life Insurance and call centers occupied the three floors. Call center agents had left the office before the fire started, Tadeo said.
He said that while an investigation was under way, fire investigators believe that ongoing “hot work” in the compressor room may have caused the blaze.
