MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Tropical Storm “Feria” (international codename: Nangka) maintained its northwest course Wednesday afternoon on its route through Luzon after battering parts of the Visayas, the Bicol region and the island of Mindoro, the weather bureau said.

The storm is expected to pass within 40 kilometers southwest of Metro Manila at around 8 p.m. Wednesday night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

At 4 p.m., “Feria” was over Calapan City or 70 kilometers southwest of Tayabas town, Quezon province, Pagasa said.

The storm packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour, moving northwest at 17 kilometers per hour, Pagasa said.

By Thursday afternoon, the storm was expected to be 130 kilometers west of Dagupan City and 310 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes, by Friday afternoon. It is expected to exit the country by Saturday, the weather bureau said.

Storm signal number 2 (60- to 100-kilometer per hour winds) remained hoisted over Metro Manila, northern Quezon, Marinduque, the Mindoro provinces, Lubang island, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Bataan, Rizal, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales and Tarlac.

Storm signal number 1 (30- to 60-kilometer per hour winds) was raised over the Calamian group of islands, Cuyo island, Romblon, Burias island, Southern Quezon, Polillo island, the Camarines provinces, southern Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Aklan and northern Antique.

Central Luzon and the Bicol region will see rains and gusty winds, with the weather becoming stormy over the rest of Southern Luzon. Seas in these areas will be rough to very rough, Pagasa said.

Northern Luzon and Visayas will have mostly cloudy weather with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, it said.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, it said.

Metro Manila will have a stormy Wednesday night. Conditions will improve on Thursday with cloudy weather with rainshowers and thunderstorms, and mostly cloudy weather with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms from Friday into the weekend, it said.

Tuguegarao City, Laoag City and Baguio City will see rains on Thursday with conditions improving into the weekend, it said.

Olongapo City and Tagaytay City will have stormy weather Wednesday night. On Thursday, the weather could improve but it would still be cloudy with rainshowers and thunderstorms. These conditions will improve for these areas into the weekend, it said.

Legazpi City and Puerto Princesa City will also see monsoon rains Wednesday night. Cloudy weather will set in for these areas by Thursday, with mostly cloudy to partly cloudy weather with rainshowers and thunderstorms towards Saturday, it said.
