MANILA, Philippines ? Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has urged city government offices and households to switch off their electric appliances for one hour on Saturday night in observance of Earth Hour.
In a letter to the city government offices, Belmonte asked heads of departments to switch off their lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. He also urged households to do the same.
?I also propose an hour-long switch-off of lights along major thoroughfares in Quezon City, and also in major landmarks and communities,? Belmonte said.
The mayor also urged police and fire officials as well as barangay (village) officers to mark Earth Hour by switching off their lights, while businessmen were asked to turn off lighted signs as well.
