MANILA, Philippines -- Motorists are advised to take alternate routes on Friday, during the feast of the Black Nazarene, where a procession of the image will be held along main roads in Manila, according to a police advisory released Thursday.
Traffic will be closed as early as 8:30 a.m. Friday on the southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard from Andalucia/Fugoso to Plaza Miranda as well as the entire procession route, the Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPD-TEU) said.
The route of the procession is as follows: from Quirino Grandstand to P. Burgos to McArthur Bridge to Rizal Avenue, then turn right to C.M. Recto, right to Legarda Street, right to Arlegui Street, then to Quezon Boulevard, then Carlos Palanca Street, right to Villalobos Street, and then to Quiapo Church.
Motorists are told to expect heavy traffic in the following affected areas:
• North and southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard/Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to T.M. Kalaw
• Southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard from Recto to Palanca (subway-Isettan Recto)
• The entire stretch of Lerma from P. Campos to Quezon Boulevard
• Westbound lane of Taft Avenue/Finance
• Westbound lane of Lagusnilad/P. Burgos
• Northbound lane of P. Burgos/Taft Avenue (Freedom Triangle)
• Villegas/N.A. Lopez
• Southbound lane of 25th Street/Bonifacio drive
To avoid heavy traffic, motorists are advised to take the following routes:
• All vehicles coming from España will turn right to P. Campa, left to Andalucia, right to Fugoso, left to T. Mapua to point of destination;
• All public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and light vehicles coming from España going to South Pier Zone should turn left to Nicanor Reyes, right to Recto, straight to JAS, left to Reina Regente, take Jones Bridge, proceed to Magallanes Drive to your point of destination;
• All vehicles coming from northern Manila going to Bonifacio Drive should turn right to Roberto S. Oca Street, left to Delgado, left to Bonifacio Drive, right to A. Soriano to Magallanes Drive, right to P. Burgos, straight to Lagusnilad to Taft Avenue;
• All vehicles coming from southern Manila going to P. Burgos shall take T.M. Kalaw, left to Taft Avenue, right to A. Villegas, right to Quezon bridge;
• All vehicles coming from southern Manila and passing through Roxas Boulevard from T.M. Kalaw to P. Burgos should turn right to T.M. Kalaw, left to Taft Avenue;
• All vehicles coming from Divisoria going to Recto should turn left to T. Alonzo, right to Fugoso, left to Andalucia;
• All vehicles coming from Legarda should turn right to Recto or turn left to Mendiola;
• All vehicles passing through the northbound lane of Taft Avenue should turn right at A. Villegas, right at Quezon Bridge;
• All heavy vehicles/cargo trucks coming from south Manila shall take Pres. Osmeña, right at Pres. Quirino to Nagtahan bridge via A.H. Lacson to Capulong;
• All motorists going to both north and south Manila are advised to use the entire stretch of Lacson to Nagtahan;
• All buses coming from south Manila via Taft Avenue will be prohibited from entering the entire stretch of the road from 7 a.m. to 12 noon. Buses will only be allowed up to Pres. Quirino.
