MANILA, Philippines—Navotas City has drafted a uniform tricycle fare matrix to avoid confusion among the riding public and to prevent shrewd tricycle drivers from charging more than is required.
City Ordinance No. 2008-07 pegged motor tricycle fares at P8 per passenger for the first kilometer, plus an additional P1 for each succeeding kilometer, for the 31 tricycle operators and drivers associations in the city.
The fare ordinance also provided for a lower fare for senior citizens in the city—P6.50 for the first kilometer and P1 for every succeeding kilometer.
Navotas lawmakers who passed the ordinance said that the purpose for the same was primarily to “protect tricycle passengers in the city.”
