MANILA, Philippines--Election watchdogs and the Commission on Elections will set up Comelec satellite offices in various schools nationwide to raise awareness on voters' registration.
In a press briefing Tuesday, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting chair Tita De Villa said they will pilot the program on Dec. 2 at the University of Sto. Tomas, where around 200 students will be given a chance to register using the Comelec's biometric machines.
The Comelec and its partners said the activity is meant to encourage the youth to register and vote in the 2010 elections.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez also said the registration will show to the public that it is easy to become a registered voter.
“People think it's entails long wait and boring,” he said, adding that the registration usually takes not more than 15 minutes. De Villa said the one-day activity will be replicated in various schools nationwide.
