MANILA, Philippines -- A man, identified as the father of the child allegedly kidnapped by a former actor and congressman, was killed in a vehicular accident Thursday afternoon, a police official said.

Chief Superintendent Eugene Martin, Cordillera Administrative Region police chief, confirmed that Roger Yu, father of Kenshi Yu, the child allegedly abducted by former Quezon City Representative Dennis Roldan, died in Benguet where his car fell into a 250-meter deep ravine and caught fire. Yu was trapped inside.

Senior Inspector Eduard Esperanza, chief of police of Tublay municipality, told INQUIRER.net that the incident occurred 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Yu was reportedly driving “very fast.”

Esperanza identified Yu’s vehicle as a Honda Civic with plate number VEM-841.

Police arrived at the scene 6 p.m. and recovered the charred body of Yu. Esperanza said they were able to identify Yu through his wallet that was found outside the vehicle.

Initial investigation revealed that Yu apparently “fell asleep” while driving.

Yu’s son, Kenshi, was abducted by a group allegedly led by Roldan in 2005. The group demanded P250 million for the release of Kenshi.

Roldan was arrested but was released on bail.
