MANILA, Philippines?Several sacks of assorted garments bearing fake Guess trademark and embroidering machines were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation during a raid in a factory in Quezon City recently.
Agents of the bureau's Background Investigation Division raided a factory located at No. 118 Gold Land Building at the corner of Calamba and Banawe Streets, Quezon City. The factory is reportedly owned by spouses Bengali and Sonia Ong.
The raid followed information that the Ongs were engaged in the manufacture, sale and distribution of counterfeit Guess products.
Armed with search warrants issued by Quezon City Judge Ofelia Arellano-Marquez, the NBI swooped down on the establishment following test buys and several weeks of surveillance.
The NBI added that the operation stemmed from the complaint made by Diversion Industries, which has the exclusive right to use, manufacture and distribute products with Guess trademark in the Philippines.
Diversion Industries further certified that the Ongs were not authorized manufacturers nor subcontractors of Guess products.
During the operation, bureau agents found and seized six sacks containing assorted garments bearing the Guess trademark and two embroidering machines used in the illegal manufacture of the fake items.
Appropriate charges for violation of the provisions of the Intellectual Property Rights Law were being readied against the suspects as of Thursday, the NBI said.
