MANILA, Philippines -- A thief who stole almost P70,000 worth of electronic gadgets from spectators of the championship game between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and De La Salle Green Archers at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday evening was arrested hours later after his victims identified him from the police’s rogue gallery.

Arnulfo Espandol, 23, of Caloocan City, has a previous arrest record and was arrested in the vicinity of the coliseum in Cubao after his four victims positively identified him from pictures kept by Quezon City Police District station 7.

But his two alleged other cohorts-- JR Santos and Mildred Ildefonso-- remain at large.

Reports from the Cubao police station said Espandol struck his victims one after the other at around 6:25 p.m. at the snack bar inside the Araneta Coliseum.

Lawyer Rose Beatriz Cruz lost a cellular phone worth P15,000, 39-year old businessman Carmelo Tadeo lost a P22,000 digital camera, a 13-year old boy lost a portable play station worth P15,000, and 26-year old Dominic Arroyo, lost an I-pod with video, also worth P15,000.

Police Officer 3 Terubio Besa said there were other victims who did not lodge complaints against Espandol.

Besa said none of the stolen items were recovered from Espandol, who allegedly told investigators he had already turned these over to his two cohorts.

Espandol is detained at the Cubao police station pending the filing of several counts of theft against him.
