MANILA, Philippines? The entire stretch of Quezon Boulevard became the third discipline zone in this city as the Manila Police District launched the "zero-obstruction" area.
Superintendent Roberto Rosales, chief of the MPD, said a campaign to clear Quiapo of snatchers has been launched, with the help of store owners and residents.
"Just like the experience of Lim Discipline Zones 1 and 2, where motorists and commuters now enjoy going to these areas without much traffic snarl and vendors in pedestrian areas, the Lim Discipline Zone 3 will also bring these benefits to the residents and store owners along Quezon Boulevard," Rosales said on Tuesday, when the ?zero obstruction? area was launched.
The third discipline zone will start from Plaza Miranda in Quiapo to the North Cemetery. The discipline zone project began in Manila last May in Tayuman, from Oroquieta to Juan Luna, followed in July at Divisoria, from Mendiola to Carmen Planas.
In discipline zones, business operators cooperate in keeping the area clean at all times and must report to police crimes in their area, according to Rosales.
"We want to maintain the discipline zones as clean and orderly as possible by involving and consulting all the stakeholders to become active partners of City Hall and MPD, through information dissemination campaign and proper engineering of traffic," he added.
