‘No bail’ for Japanese accused of raping 15-year-old maid

MANILA, Philippines—A Japanese national was charged with the rape of his 15-year-old maid at the Manila Regional Trial Court on Thursday and the prosecutors recommended no bail.

Assistant City Prosecutor Leo Lee indicted Nakamura Daiju, 67, for allegedly forcing himself sexually on the minor in his temporary Ermita residence on August 21.

The suspect was arrested by the Manila Police District the following day.

The victim, a high-school graduate, said she was recommended by her sister to work as a maid for Daiju two months ago.

Prior to the attack, she said Daiju often tried to hug and kiss her but she fended him off. He also apparently muttered to her: "I like you and I want to help you go back to school again in college."

On August 21, however, the victim was sleeping inside the apartment when she felt her clothes being taken off by the Japanese.

She said her Japanese employer used his strength to sexually assault her, prompting her to report the rape to police and file a criminal case against him.
