MANILA, Philippines -- The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said it lost more than P3 million in revenues when it suspended operations six times from January to August this year because of fires that struck establishments located near its train stations.

Administrator Melquaides Robles said on Wednesday their biggest loss was from the fire at the Puregold Plaza near Libertad Station in Pasay City last July 17, which prevented 67,971 passengers from taking the trains, equivalent to P971,985 in lost revenues.

The 10-hour fire that struck the Galleria Shopping Mall in Baclaran, Pasay City last January 3 cost the LRTA P903,230 in lost revenues from 63,163 displaced passengers.

More than P440,000 was during the 60-hour fire that struck a mall in Pasay City near the Baclaran LRT station last August 10 and 11 and displaced more than 60,000 passengers.

Robles despite the revenue loss, the agency has no plans of hiking its fares for the moment.

Current ticket prices for both LRT Lines 1 (Baclaran to Monumento) and 2 (Santolan to Recto) are pegged at P14. Robles said the government is subsidizing as much as P67 of the actual fare for an LRT ride.
