MANILA, Philippines -- Feuding officials in Manila will face off when the Commission on Human Rights calls for them in a dialogue soon.
Acting on the complaint filed by District 1 Councilor Dennis Alcoreza, CHR Chair Leila de Lima gave Manila City officials, including Mayor Alfredo Lim, on Wednesday 10 days to file their counter-affidavits to the complaint of human rights violations hurled against them.
Alcoreza and his sister, Jocelyn, sought the help of the CHR last week after policemen bodily carried them out of the Vitas slaughterhouse in Tondo on alleged violations in their contract.
The Alcorezas, owner of Dealco Farms Inc. -- a firm that ran the slaughterhouse before it was taken over by the city government on July 11 -- accused Lim and eight others of harassment and violation of human rights.
In a dialogue with Alcoreza on Monday, De Lima said the commission would wait for the respondents' answer to his complaint before calling the two parties in a meeting.
