MANILA, Philippines -- A security guard allegedly killed himself after credit agencies aggressively chased him for his unpaid debts, a police investigator said on Tuesday.
According to Police Officer 3 Rolando Lipata, the victim's body was discovered by another security guard, Nicolas Cunado, at the Bankard office located on the 30th floor of Equitable Towers, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
Lipata said a three-page suicide letter was found on a table a meter away from where the victim was found.
“The suicide note indicated he was repeatedly given collection notices but he could not pay yet. He said the collectors were relentless,'' the police investigator said.
He also said that the letter bore the signature of the victim on all sides of the paper.
He added that the signature in the letter bore a resemblance to the victim's signature seen in the guard's logbook.
“It's similar but we have to further investigate and bring it to a handwriting expert to finally rule out foul play and declare a suicide,'' the policeman said.
He added that the letter was addressed to the victim's wife and was written in Filipino.
Cunado, who discovered the body, said he did not immediately notice the gunshot wound on the victim's head when he arrived at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
Cunado was reporting for his shift.
“Akala ko lang maganda ang tulog nya, pero nang nilapitan ko may dugo,'' he said. [I thought he was sleeping soundly. But I saw the blood when I approached him.]
