MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) With a concussion on her forehead and strangulation marks around her neck, a three-year old girl survived having been raped five times and having her head smashed against a wall by a man who left her for dead in Quezon City.
The victim?s 40-year-old mother Tuesday morning sought the help of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Kamuning police station 10 for the arrest of the suspect whom the child identified only as a certain ?Ben? who, like them, lived on the streets along E. Rodriguez Boulevard near the corner of Monte de Piedad Street, in the village of Immaculate Conception in Cubao.
She told police investigators that they were sleeping at around 3 a.m. Sunday when she awoke to find that the girl, the youngest in a brood of six, had disappeared.
?She (the victim) suddenly disappeared and when I looked for her, I found her lying bloodied on the street nearby,? the victim?s mother said, adding that she immediately sought the help of village officials when the child regained consciousness and indicated that she had been molested.
Barangay Immaculate Conception captain Peter Tan Cabasag told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that he accompanied the victim and her mother to Camp Crame to have the child examined as soon as he was informed of the incident.
?The medico-legal findings show that she was previously raped and this was the fifth time,? he revealed. He pointed out that they were advised to wait for the test results before proceeding to the Kamuning police station so it was only Tuesday that they were able to report the incident and seek the assailant?s arrest.
Cabasag said that the victim?s family used to live in the squatters area on F. Manalo Street in Cubao which was razed by fire several months ago.
?They were already given financial assistance to help them relocate and start fresh but they chose to stay and live on the street,? the village chief explained.
Cabasag told the Inquirer that when he went back to the crime scene to conduct an inspection, he found blood on the wall which indicated that the suspect had smashed the girl?s head against it.
Six persons, who also lived in carts along E. Rodriguez Boulevard, were invited for questioning and verification by QCPD investigators and subsequently released after they were cleared of any involvement in the crime.
