MANILA, Philippines -- Barely five hours after a newborn baby girl was allegedly thrown out of the window of a condominium unit in Binondo, Manila, Tuesday morning, another newborn baby girl was seriously injured after she was allegedly dropped from a taxicab by her teenage mother in Paco.
The baby's 15-year-old mother from San Andres Bukid, is facing frustrated infanticide charges, according to the police.
Investigation showed that the baby was dropped around 4 p.m. at the corner of Pedro Gil and Onyx Streets in Paco.
The suspect was reportedly on board a taxi, along with two other relatives, when the girl suddenly threw the baby out of the car's window.
Cristine Quiñones, a store owner, claimed she saw the baby falling from a passing taxi but thought at first it was a doll.
However, when she checked, she saw the baby's face and body covered by blood and rushed the infant to a nearby lying-in clinic.
Paz Irene Diaz, a midwife supervisor at the clinic, said the baby seemed all right except for bruises on the body.
From the clinic, Diaz turned the baby over to the Ospital ng Maynila and had the incident reported to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Last Sunday, a 21-year-old college student was arrested by the Manila Police District for throwing her newborn baby into a canal in Sta. Mesa. The baby died from asphyxia by drowning, police said.
