MANILA, Philippines -- At least 15 members of a group of public school teachers marked the first day of classes by holding a rally outside a school in Quezon City to demand for higher pay.

Teachers from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers staged a protest at the Batasan Hills National High School this Tuesday, a day after holding a similar rally in Manila.

ACT is calling for a P9000 across-the-board wage increase.

It is also calling for an increase in the budget for education.
