MANILA, Philippines -- The National Bureau of Investigation has seized some P1.4 million worth of fake Lee brand jeans during raids on a shopping center and several warehouses in Pasay City early this week.

Regional Director Elfren Meneses, chief of the NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division, said his men raided the stalls owned by one Willy Ong at Sunnyline Shopping Center on Taft Avenue, Pasay City following information that he was selling counterfeit Lee jeans.

Also raided were Ong's four stockrooms at U-Need Shopping Mall, also located on Taft Avenue, Pasay City.

Armed with search warrants issued by Manila Judge Mercedes Posada-Lacap, bureau agents seized some 916 pairs of fake Lee jeans during the raid.

Meneses said the raids were conducted following a complaint made by H.D. Lee Co. Inc., manufacturer of the original Lee jeans.

He added that the raids were made following test buys and several weeks of surveillance operations.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 8293 (trademark infringement) will be filed against the owner of the establishment.
