MANILA, Philippines -- Police presented to media on Monday seven robbery suspects who were arrested in the eastern Metro Manila over the weekend.
Because four of the suspects belong to the "donut gang" and one allegedly robbed an outlet of a popular food chain, Director
Geary Barias, the chief of the National Capital Region Police Office
(NCRPO), kidded that they were part of the "fastfood syndicate."
Barias presented the suspects at a news conference at the National Capital Region Command (NCRCom) headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo.
The four members of the "donut gang," who allegedly stole as much as
200 tires from parked vehicles before their arrest Sunday, were identified as Ritchie de Leon, Enrico delos Santos, Edgar Lagman, and Arnold Galang.
Police Officer 1 Christopher Abeleda, the arresting officer, said they were all residents of Tondo, Manila.
They were arrested at the Robinson's Galleria parking in Pasig City at
7:30 p.m., as they were about to leave after stealing the spare tire of a Toyota Fortuner there, said Chief Superintendent Nilo dela Cruz of the Eastern Police District.
The suspects were on board a Toyota Tamaraw FX Van with plate number UMD 374, where authorities found four other stolen tires and several tools that the group had used in its operations, Dela Cruz said.
Barias also presented Monday Menandro Quirimet, 29, a suspect in the robbery of a fastfood outlet in Kapitolyo Village, Pasig last April 20. The suspect was arrested in a follow-operation in the same city at 7 p.m. last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Armando Paredes, 27, and Alex Salvador, 30, who allegedly robbed taxi driver Teofilo Mullon, in San Juan City after midnight on Monday, were also shown to media, Dela Cruz said.
They were arrested after Mullon drove his vehicle to a police checkpoint, Dela Cruz said.
The suspects were charged with theft in the Pasig City prosecutor's office Monday morning, authorities said.
