MANILA, Philippines -- A third year high school student was stabbed dead as rival street gangs clashed in Barangay (village) Culiat, Quezon City early Tuesday morning, police said.
Robbie Jay Torres, 18, died while being treated at the General Malvar Hospital.
A report from the Quezon City Police District said the victim was at the birthday celebration for Osborne de Venecia on Luzon Avenue, Culiat at around 2:20 a.m. when a certain Totoy Lupin allegedly threatened a member of their rival, the Black Boys Gang (BBG), with a gun.
According to the report, the BBG member sought the help of his gang mates, who rushed over, triggering a free-for-all.
During the brawl, a still unidentified assailant stabbed Torres with a four-inch knife, the police report said. The BBG members fled on seeing Torres fall to the ground.
Agents of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) have invited witnesses to identify the BBG members involved in the brawl.
