MANILA, Philippines -- About P1.3 million worth of fake Superman, Batman and Looney Tunes school supplies were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Parañaque City recently.
Agents of the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) led by chief Efren Meneses recovered on January 28 a total of 6,148 counterfeit items, bearing the trademarks of Warner Bros. Inc. and DC Comics, from a storage area of Sekurit System and Allied Services Inc. in the village of San Martin de Porres.
The products, which included coloring books, notebooks, paper bags, plastic envelopes and school bags, apparently came from Susan Rodriguez Trading operated by a Susan Garcia Rodriguez and/or Jin Xia Hou, with business addresses in Binondo, Manila.
The complaining companies sought the help of the NBI-IPRD for the proliferation of unauthorized goods bearing their logos. The agency secured six search warrants from Judge Antonio Eugenio of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24.
Special investigator Carlos Borromeo said charges for violation of Sec. 168 (unfair competition) and violation of Sec. 155 (Intellectual Property Code) were being readied against the suspects.
