WASHINGTON?YouTube said Wednesday that 24 hours worth of video are being uploaded to the video-sharing site every minute.

"What?s next? 30 hours? 36 hours?" YouTube director of product management Hunter Walk said in a blog post.

"A day's worth of content uploaded to YouTube every minute is a big achievement for our community and speaks to the role video plays in connecting and changing the world one upload at a time," Walker said.

Google-owned YouTube announced in May that 20 hours of video were being uploaded to the site every minute, up from 15 hours in January.

In mid-2007, six hours of video were being uploaded to YouTube every minute, according to the site.

Google bought YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion but the Mountain View, California-based Internet search and advertising giant has not yet managed to turn a profit with the site despite its massive global popularity.

YouTube has been gradually adding professional content such as full-length television shows and movies to its vast trove of amateur video offerings in a bid to attract advertisers.
