MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle University (DLSU) will offer an elective course on storage technology designed by storage company EMC.
The Storage Technology Foundations course is under EMC's global Academic Alliance program and has been deployed in partner-universities in other countries including India, China, Singapore and Thailand.
EMC is looking to deploy storage courses in other universities, according to Barni Ooi, EMC educations solutions consultant for Southeast Asia.
"It is an open course and not confined to proprietary technology, including EMC," Ooi said.
According to EMC, the course exposes Computer Science students to the evolution in storage, disk drive basics and the common topologies for storing data.
More advanced courses -- Storage Technology Foundations, Networked Storage Design and Management, and Information Availability Design and Management -- will be deployed starting January next year, EMC said.
These courses will involve cover designing and managing storage environments, specifically SAN (storage area network) and NAS (network attached storage).
The courses have been designed to accommodate a 15-week semester or up to 45 hours of classes. Each course includes lecture sessions, cases studies and discussion sessions.
Students should have completed courses in Networking, Computer Architectures, Introduction to Computers and Operating Systems as a prerequisite, EMC said.
Partner schools also need not invest in equipment in teaching these courses, Ooi said.
