Israeli soldier sentenced for posting photo on Facebook

JERUSALEM--An Israeli soldier has been jailed for 19 days for posting photos on the Facebook social networking site without permission from his superiors, a military spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The soldier was from an elite air force unit, the Haaretz daily said, adding this was the first case of its kind.

Numerous Israeli soldiers have posted photographs on Internet sites which have been taken during their military service despite orders banning unauthorised picture-taking on military bases.

The air force recently ordered servicemen in sensitive units to remove any photos that they had uploaded onto the Facebook site.
