Man watching Pacquiao match shot dead in Marikina; ‘gunman’ linked to drugs

MANILA, Philippines – A man was shot dead while he was watching Manny Pacquiao’s match with Chris Algieri on Sunday in Marikina City, police said Monday.

Anuwar Maso, 32, was shot by a certain “Ali Kan” on Sunday at around 2:35 p.m. inside his house at Singkamas St., Barangay (village) Tumana, Marikina City.

SPO1 Bueneres Cruz Jr. said that Maso, a belt maker from Marawi City, was watching Pacquiao’s match against Chris Algieri when Ali Kan entered his house and fired two shots at his face, killing him instantly.

Cruz said that Maso’s neighbors saw Ali Kan frequenting Singkamas days before the shooting. He added that police have been checking reports that Ali Kan has been engaged in the drug business in Singkamas and has catered to Muslim patrons.

The Eastern Police District’s Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered an empty shell from a caliber .45 pistol inside Maso’s house. Cruz said that they have been looking for Ali Kan, who fled onboard a black and white motorcycle. Maso’s neighbors, however, weren’t able to get Ali Kan’s motorcycle model and license plate.
