To help ease traffic congestion along major roads in the northern cities of Metro Manila, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has opened the additional portion of Mindanao Avenue Extension in Valenzuela City.

“With the completion of additional 8-lane, or four (4) lanes per direction from P. dela Cruz Street to MGM Road, we reduce travel time from 30 minutes to just 3-6 minutes from the intersection of P. Dela Cruz to General Luis, Valenzuela City,” DPWH National Capital Region Director Melvin Navarro said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Navarro, the 700-meter section from P. dela Cruz Street to MGM Road is a part of the remaining 1.7-kilometer portion of the Mindanao Avenue Extension road improvement project.

Navarro also said that Tokwing Construction Corporation completed the segment in April.

“The goal of this project is to decongest traffic within the vicinity from Quezon City particularly Novaliches, Valenzuela and Caloocan City, and vice versa,” he added.

DPWH said the project is included in the P118 million Segment 2C plan, which is now 68.75 percent complete.  The department added that the Mindanao Avenue Extension road improvement project also covers drainage improvement, street lighting, as well as creation and repairing of center-island and sidewalks. /kga
