Village chief gunned down in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY – An incumbent village chief who was at the end of her last term was gunned down by a still unidentified gunman in Libon town in Albay province, police said on Friday.

Myrna Armillo, chief of the remote village of Harigue, was shot by the gunman while she was manning her store in said village on Thursday night, said Sr. Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.

The attacker, armed with a .45 caliber handgun, casually approached Armillo around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, and shot her at close range, Calubaquib said quoting an initial report said.

The victim died while being taken to the hospital.

Calubaquib said police are still determining the identity of the attacker and the possible motive behind the killing. /kga
