Soldier wounded in clash with rebels in Isabela

CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, Isabela – An Army corporal was wounded in a clash with communist rebels in Jones town in Isabela province on Sunday.

Army Capt. Jefferson Somera, spokesperson of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, said Corporal Geronimo Tongdo was wounded in the 10-minute firefight in Sitio (sub village) Diarao, Dicamay Dos village.


Tongdo is now recuperating at a local hospital.

Somera said the rebels withdrew towards the north, allegedly dragging with them wounded comrades. The military launched pursuit operations. /ee
