Mom slits throat of 3-year-old son

MANILA, Philippines—A mentally deranged woman killed her three-year-old son by slitting his throat Tuesday night in Pangasinan, police said.

Marivic Abata, believed to be suffering from a mental illness, used a 17-inch bolo to kill her son inside their home in Rabon village, San Fabian town at around 10:50 p.m., Senior Superintendent Rosueto Ricaforte, Pangasinan provincial police director, said on Wednesday.

Abata, 42, was captured by village officials and turned over to police, said Ricaforte.

She faces charges of parricide.
