5 barangay polls candidates in Quezon arrested for perjury
LUCENA CITY – Police arrested a candidate for barangay (village) chairman and four other candidates for village councilors on charges of perjury in Catanauan town in Quezon province on Saturday, police said.
Chief Insp. Raul Abenilla, Unisan police chief, said the five: Renerio Holanda Paglinawan, candidate for chairman, and candidates for kagawad Alma Nicoleta Perez, Christopher Surio Raby, Jacobo Orfanel Jr. and Rommel Vallez Dioquino, all of Barangay 5 – had separate warrants of arrest issued by a court in Gumaca town on May 8.
“They were also released yesterday (May 12) after they posted bail,” Abenilla said in a phone interview.
According to Abenilla, the five were accused by incumbent village chair Cris Capina of committing perjury in administrative complaints they filed against him.
Police said Capina, who is not seeking reelection, was suspended based on the complaints where he was accused of misconduct in running the village. /cbb
