National Artist for Literature Cirilo Baustista passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018, the Dela Salle University Department of Literature announced. INQUIRER PHOTO

National Artist for Literature Dr. Cirilo F. Bautista has passed away at 76.

In a post by the De La Salle University Department of Literature on Facebook, it confirmed the news that Bautista died on Sunday.

However, the department did not provide details on the death of Bautista.

Bautista graduated magna cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) AB Literature program and was a literary editor of the Varsitarian, the official publication of UST.

In 2014, former President Benigno Aquino III conferred the award to Bautista.
