7,700 cops to secure annual ADB meet in Pasig

The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed on Friday thousands of policemen to secure the annual high-level meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held in Pasig City.

PNP deputy chief of operations Deputy Director General Fernando Mendez said 7,700 police personnel would be deployed to different parts of Metro Manila to secure the ADB Board of Governors’ Annual Meeting 2018 that would take place from May 2 to 6 at the bank’s headquarters in Ortigas.

“After several months of painstaking and intense preparations, we are now up and ready to send off the Special Task Force ADB Manila 2018 to secure this even which will start in a few days,” Mendez said in his speech during the send-off ceremony for the policemen.

Mendez said 67 finance and economic ministers of different countries as well as more than 3,000 delegates, international media, and other private business visitors are set to take part in the five-day meeting.

The troops will be part of the combined contingent of 8,504 public safety personnel from different law enforcement, local government, fire, and medical emergency services, PNP Acting Director for Operations Chief Supt. Ma. O Aplasca said.

Chief Supt. William Macavinta, commander of the contingent’s red team, said the policemen would be deployed around the venue as well as other billeting areas located in the cities of Pasig, Makati, and Taguig.

This is the third time the Philippines is hosting the annual ADB meeting. /kga
